The Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) is seeking to hire an Accountant for its Fiscal and Administration Division. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, be detail-orientated, be a team player, and have the ability to work independently.

ACCOUNTANT {UPWARDMOBILITY}

Essential Functions

  • Monitors, records, and processes all Illinois Gaming Board receipts.
  • Confers with licensee accounting representatives, casino executives, auditing firm personnel, Illinois, and other state governmental agents to provide direction and/or answer specific inquiries relative to correct filing procedures, as well as receipt-related inquiries.
  • Reconciles Illinois Gaming Board receipt reports with the State Treasurer, State Comptroller, and Revenue Accounting Division.
  • Assists supervisor in accumulating, analyzing, and producing extensive internal and public financial reporting concerning licensed gaming results, tax and fee collections, and distributions.
  • Compiles a variety of complex financial data and prepares a large variety of financial data for monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports and graphs, many of which will be available on the internet relative to gaming operations.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with courses in business administration and accounting; or four (4) years of technical accounting experience.    "Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs."

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to pass IGB background investigation (background check).
  •  Must comply with the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act: No State employee who works for the Illinois Gaming Board, or spouse or immediate family member living with such person shall, during State employment, hold an ownership interest in, other than a passive interest in, a publicly traded company, in any gaming license under the Illinois Gambling Act, the Video Gaming Act, the Illinois Horse Racing Act of 1975, or the Sports Wagering Act.
  • Must comply with the Illinois Gambling Act: No person shall be employed to serve the Board who is, or whose spouse, parent, or child is, an official of, or has a financial interest in or financial relation with, any operator engaged in gambling operations within this State, or any organization engaged in conducting horse racing within this State.
  • Must comply with the Illinois Gambling Act: For the one year immediately preceding employment, an employee shall not have been employed or received compensation or fees for services from a person or entity, or its parent or affiliate, that has engaged in business with the Board, a licensee, or a licensee under the Illinois Horse Racing Act of 1975.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers 2 years of knowledge of professional accounting and auditing theory, principles, methods, and procedures.
  • Prefers 2 years of knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations relating to state or non-state accounting or auditing procedures.
  • Prefers 2 years of knowledge of office methods, procedures, standard office accounting machines, and equipment. 
  • Prefers the ability to perform detailed work involving the application of accounting theory to routine accounting or auditing problems; evaluate accounting problems of moderate difficulty and analyze and interpret less complex accounting records and reports.
  • Prefers the ability to perform detailed work involving written or numerical data and to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately, either manually or by machine.
  • Prefers the ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Prefers elementary knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations relating to Gaming board procedures.
  • Prefers elementary knowledge and use of computer equipment for maintenance and production of automated accounting records.
